I just found an AWESOME apt in NY. This doesn't help you at all, but I thought Id share.
im glad you found an awesome apt, now lets hope i find one oo. so far they're all in koreatown which means ill have to definately drive to school.
I would look in places in the LAX/South Bay area. Westchester has a FEW apartments (not many), also look at South Bay areas like Hawthorne. Some parts of Inglewood are really nice. and also the Mid-City area (more expensive that K-town, but closer) near La Brea and San Vicente too. You should definitely do some google maps walks through the differents areas to get a feel. Where is Otis again?
